Bottom steps

  1. For appearance , the bottom step of a timber staircase may be framed to project beyond the newel post and be shaped as :
  • Bullnose steps
  • Splayed step
  • D step
  1. Projecting bottom steps are usually included to enable the outer string to be securely jointed to the back face of the newel post and to provide an easy line of travel when ascending or descending at the foor of the stairs .
