Formwork for in-situ RC stairs

  • Formwork will vary for the different types of RC stair but the basic principles for each format will remain constant .
  • Stair profile is built off an adequately supported soffit of sheet material by using a cut string .
  • Riser boards should have a splayed bottom edge :
  1. To enable complete trowelling of the tread surfaces
  1. To ensure that air is not trapped under the bottom edge of the riser board , thus causing voids .
  • 2 can considered to provide the abutment support for the riser boards :
  1. A reverse-cut string
  2. A wall board with hangers
