Internal Finishes and external rendering

There are two different types of finish to the building fabric , inherent finishes
Inherent finishes
  • Those inherent in the material
  • Materials such as timber stone , brick and glass provide a natural finish without any need for further work
  • For example , fair-face brickwork or blockwork without plastering .
 Applied Finishes
  • Those appplied to a background
  • Application of materials to existing backgrounds such as plaster to a wall or paint to timber .
The primary function of a surface finish is to provide a durable , visually attractive and low maintenace surface to floors , wallls and ceilings
There may be differences between the functional requirements of the finish depending on whether it is external or internal finish .
