Quarry tiels method of laying

  • Quarry tiles may expand as a result of physical adsorption of water and chemical hydration .
  • Thus , an expansion joint of compressible material should be incorporated around the perimeter of the floor .
  • In no circumstances should the length or width of a quarry tile floor exceed 7500mm without an expansion joint .
  • THe joints between quarry tiles are usually grouted with a 1:1 cement /sand grout
  • After cleaning , the floor should be protected with sand or sawdust for 4 or 5 days .
  • There is a wide variety of treads patterns available to provide a non-slip surfaces  ; also a wide range of fittings are available to form skirtings and edge coves .
