Connections between environement

  • From the earlies times , people have adapted their habitat to provide shelter from the weather & other threats to life .
  • Modern buildings involve so many features in design that it is easy to forget that the main aim of building design is to provide an internal environment that is different from the external environment .
  • A built environment responds to the local natural environment .
  • Different types of buildings are therefore found in different parts of the world .
  • CLimate plays a major part in determining the features of buildings .
Hot , dry climate - roof overhangs to provide shade , openings for breezes , light-coloured exterior surfaces .
Warm , humid climate - buildings on stilts for ventilations . roof overhangs , light -coloured exterior surfaces .
Cold climate - high insulations , tightly sealed constrtuction ,
Snowfalls - strong roofs for load  , sloping roofs to discard snow
High winds - low sunken buildings .
Earthquake zones - lightweight flexible construction ,
Forests - Timber as construction material
Quarries - Stone as construction material
Clay soil - Brick as construction material
