Organization structural at the national level

While the structure of USGBC is organic and shifts to meet the needs of its membership , it has a basic organizational composition . A board of directors presides over the national organization . The individual members of the board are all volunteers . They comes from across the United States and generally hold full-time jobs , typically in some aspect of the construction and related industries , and usually in a leadership capacity .

Board members are elected to the board annually by representatives of all USGBC member companies , one vote per member organization . This ensures that no member company ( say one with 750 employees ) carries more weight with other member company ( such as one with only give employees )  A certain number of spots are allocated to different constituencies to ensure representation of the varioys member organization categories ( contractor , professional firm , product manufacturr , and so on ) . Because each of these ifferent elements of the construction industry may have different perspectives and values , this breakdown  aims to ensure that all voices within the green building discussion are represented . Board members typically serve a two-year term .

  In addition to this all-volunteer governinb body , USGBC has a full-time staff in the organizations's headquarters in Washington , DC . The staff is led by a chief executive officer (CEO) who is baed at USGBC's headquarters and who is the public face of the organizations . Reportting to the CEO are a number of departments that work together to serve the mission of the organization and the needs of its member companies . As you might expect , the chief operating officer ( COO) oversees all of the day-to day activities and iperations management of the assocaition - the technology department , administrative suypport , finance , human resources , and overall govenment withint the organization .
   USGBC's membership has grown rapidly since the early 2000s , in term of both the number of member organisations and the bumbr of local chapters . Accompanying that growth has been comprable growth in USGBC's educational initialtives , membership needs , and overall program development . At the same time , USGBC stafff has grown to keep pace with this increased demand for services and support , includiong educational intiatives , program development , genera ; guidance  , and membership services . Individual departments that support these activities are Community ; Advocac and Public Policy ; Education and Research ; and LEED .
  The Community department docuses on the development of the USGBC network , including all members firms and progra ( which will be discussed briefly later ) as well as the national membership program , including member services and benefits . The commnity team also supports USGBC  student and ypung professionsal programs , the Emerging Green Builders ( EGB) and USGBSS student . These structures , ;like the locak chapter structure , are hosted both nationally and locally , and the Community department is all about keeping USGBC's membership happy , well informed , organized , and focussed on the collective green building goal .
