- Cold formed steel sections are pressed or rolled to shape from thin steel strips & are known respectively as pressed - steel or cold-rolled steel sections .
- Can be formed to almost any shape & strength can be varied by the use of different thicknesses of sheet steel .
- In Malaysia , cold formed steel are efficiently used in circumstances where even the smallest hot -rolled section would not be stressed to its limit ( e.g. as lipped channels for light roofing where they prove cheaper than hot-rolled sections .
- They are used mainly as purlins or sheeting rails .
