Other Steel Connections

  • Other forms of steel connections are rivets & selft tapping screws . THeir use in modern steel fabrication is limited .
  • Rivets have a snap head which is almost semicircular in section . It is not as strong as a bolted or welded connection .
  • Self -tapping screws are of case- hardened steel with threads designed to cut their own thread in the metal through which they pass , the holes driled in the metal being the same diameter as the core of the screw
  • THey are used mainly to connect thin sections e.g. roofing sheets .
