- Corrosion is the result of the instability of some metals which tend to achieve a more stable state by combining with certain environmental elements such as air , water , soil &carbon dioxide .
- Atmospheric corrosion means an oxidation process where the metal combines with oxygen in the air to form rust .
- Rust is accompanied by the expansion of metal which can affect adjacent materials .
- Electrolytic corrosion ( or electro-chemical corrosion ) is the result of contact between two dissimilar metals or between a metal and a non-metqal . If moisture is present , the potential difference between them will set up a galvanic action .
