Thermal shock

  • Damage to concrete by thermal shock is rare & occurs in only a few special cases such as the spillage onto concrete of liquefied gases .
  • The gases involve are those used in industry & include oxygen , nitrogen , methane , hydrogen & carbon dioxide .
  • A mild form of thermal shock can occur if cold water is sprayed onto in situ concrete wall or casr in timber formwork during hot weather .
